SWTOR Space Guide - Starship Battle Tips

I don't know about you, but I'm a little disappointed about the space combat system in Star Wars: The Old Republic. If you play the game, you should have noticed already that starship gameplay is basically closed combat, your ship follows a determined route, and all you must do is to dodge the bigger obstacles and shoot the main targets. Not a big deal, but some of the missions are quite difficult. So, in this short SWTOR space guide I will put into view a few tips to help you one-shot every SWTOR space mission.

1. Firstly, all your attention must be focused on your mouse cursor, which for space combat, will turn into your ship's target. This way you will be able to target and dispose of the main mission objectives much better.
2. Don't look at your ship only when you have to a void a large obstacle like an asteroid or another ship. Although your eyes must stick to the target most of the time, in the circumstances where you need to avoid something, you should watch your ship and move your cursor a little earlier, otherwise you just might blow up your ship. Anyway, it's a matter of estimation and depth perception, and you'll probably figure this out on your first mission into space.
3. During each mission you will receive a limited amount of missiles. Save them for the main objectives of the mission. This way you will be sure that you will complete all or most of the auxiliary objectives, therefore you will get more exp. As a general idea, when you think missiles, think turrets, cannons, bigger ships or ships that attack you with massive damage and must be quickly destroyed. That's what they're for.
4. Last of the tips I want to mention in this short SWTOR space guide refers to focusing damage. When groups of enemy starships come from behind you, it's best to focus your damage to the specific point where they will all end up. This way, with only one missile you can massively damage multiple other starships, then with less effort you will be able to finish them off with your lasers.
Although space combat seems to be a bit shabby at the moment, with a little bit of an Arcade tint, I do believe this is just a taste of the space combat in Star Wars: The Old Republic. They're probably saving the big improvements of it, like open space combat, space PvP or even space raiding (that would be awesome), for a future patch or expansion.
Anyway, if you're having problems with one or multiple SWTOR missions in space, I can recommend you a complete SWTOR space guide for that.
